Wet n Wild Emerald Pointe
Emerald Pointe is the largest water park in the Carolinas and is located just south of Greensboro, NC on Business 85 at South Holden Road. There are three totally enclosed water slides that offer a variety of thrill levels - the Blue Streak, the Sidewinder and the 360. Their centerpiece attraction is Thunder Bay, a two million gallon wave pool that creates 84-foot wide waves to ride on, splash in or just watch from the sand-free beach. Their newest attraction, the Dragons Den, will catapult you through mysterious darkness, and then plummet into the mist-shrouded abyss of the dragon....only to vanish from sight. Regular tickets are $23.00 and Junior tickets, for anyone under 48" tall, are $15.00. To purchase tickets just stop by our office.

Carowinds / Kings Dominion
As we have for many years, BPRD offers discount tickets for Kings Dominion and Carowinds. Kings Dominion, located in Doswell, VA at Exit 98 on I-95, is the place to be for thrill rides. Their bragging rights begin with the best roller coaster collection on the entire east coast - twelve of the wildest scream machines you will find anywhere. They also have family rides, fun for the kids in Nickelodeon Central, live shows, and WaterWorks, a 19-acre water park where family members of all ages will find something to love. Carowinds is located off I-77 about 10 miles from Charlotte, NC. Check out their world-class coasters including the Borg Assimilator, the first roller coaster in the world to carry a Star Trek theme. They also have three different water rides, all new attractions just for the kids, and live shows. Boomerang Bay Water Park is 16 acres of flowing fun. Navigate a four-story rafting adventure; plunge through twisting tube slides; climb, spray, splash on a huge, flowing playground; relax in a heated lagoon; brave wild waves or let the world melt away with a float down a ramblin' river! Good-Any-Day Early Purchase tickets are $31.00. These tickets can be used for either park any operating day this season but must be purchased by June 8. We will also be offering Playground Days tickets, valid June 21 thru July 6, Summer Sizzler Days tickets, valid July 12 thru 27, and Fall Fun Days tickets, valid August 2 thru 17, all of which will be $29.00. To purchase tickets just stop by our office at 1204 N. Johnson Street.

Community Food Pantry
Since it began in May of 2007, ACTS (Area Churches Together in Service) Food Pantry has seen a steady increase in use by the community. According to Benson Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) president Jeff Person, the pantry assisted 26 families in August and that number increased to 46 families in November. The growing influence and success of the pantry has also brought with it certain challenges. There is a continual balancing act between supply and demand. The pantry, which is open to the public on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 9:00am until 12:00 noon, needs the community to come to its aid. Your food donation has the potential to make a profound difference in our community. There are a number of food items Pastor Person noted as specific needs: canned meats (beef stew, ravioli, and Spam type products, etc.), pastas (such as rice, macaroni and cheese, and spaghetti), beans, breakfast cereal, peanut butter, crackers, soup (especially chicken noodle), and canned fruit. Food can be dropped at the Benson Parks & Recreation Department lobby or at any of our area participating churches. If you desire to make a monetary donation, this can be done through one of our participating churches. Simply stipulate ACTS Food Pantry on your check or envelope. For further information, contact Pastor Jeff Person at 919-820-1591 or call the Benson Parks and Recreation Department at 894-5117 for a list of participating churches and pastors. The Pantry is located at the Benson Parks & Recreation Department on North Johnson Street in Benson.
