Message from the Chief

On behalf of myself, and the officers of our department, we welcome you to the webpage of the Benson, NC Police Department. We hope that you will find it informative and that it will allow you to get to know us, and our department better.

In January of 2003, when I became Chief of Police, we set a goal of modernizing our department, and upgrading our operations, through the use of various grants to obtain additional positions and equipment, through advanced training and educational opportunities for our staff, and by embracing the “Community Policing” concept, and getting to know our community. We have come a long way since then, installing computers, printers, and most recently, mobile radios in our vehicles, and adding services such as vehicle unlocks, business escorts, infant/child car seat inspections and installations, and a summer recreational program for youth in our community. We’re always looking for additional ways we can improve, and I’m excited about the possibilities moving forward.

My ongoing vision for our department is a staff of highly trained, highly motivated officers, who genuinely care about the community they serve. They will have the best equipment, and the best training available, and they will take a personal interest in working with the community to solve both simple and complex problems.

If you are interested in joining our agency, please visit the Town of Benson employment page, to obtain additional information. Thank you for visiting our webpage, and if you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Kenneth O. Edwards
